Senior Platform Engineer (Advisory Contract)
Location: Sydney (Remote, 1 day per week)
Engagement: Ongoing ad hoc contract (1 day per week) with potential for expanded advisory hours

The Opportunity
We are partnering with an emerging Australian technology company dedicated to building robust infrastructure for AI and compute intensive workloads.
They are seeking a highly experienced Senior Platform Engineer for an ongoing, one day a week advisory contract.
Rather than running the day to day operations, your primary focus will be to elevate the existing engineering team.
You will provide senior level guidance, help build internal capabilities, and advise on best practices for integrating and supporting specialist GPU cloud environments.
This is a unique opportunity to shape the foundational infrastructure of an innovative company while maintaining a flexible, ad hoc schedule.
Key Responsibilities

Team Upskilling: Mentor and guide the existing engineering team, elevating their capabilities in infrastructure automation, containerisation, and DevOps best practices.

Strategic Advisory: Advise on the evaluation and integration of specialist GPU cloud services and compute platforms.

Process Engineering: Help the team develop reliable automation and operational processes using tools like Terraform, Ansible, Python, and shell scripting.

Infrastructure Design: Provide architectural guidance on deploying containerised workloads, managing CI/CD pipelines, and establishing robust monitoring frameworks.

Security and Governance: Ensure the team adopts secure practices for credentials, secrets management, and infrastructure access.
The Technology Stack
You should bring deep expertise in the following areas to effectively guide the team:

Strong working knowledge of Linux and public cloud platforms.

Scripting proficiency in Python or Bash.

Container technologies, specifically Docker, Kubernetes, or Slurm.

Infrastructure as code and configuration management (Terraform, Ansible).

Monitoring and observability (Prometheus, Grafana).

Networking fundamentals (DNS, TLS, APIs).

Advantageous: Experience with specialist GPU cloud platforms, NVIDIA GPUs, CUDA, or high performance computing projects.

You are a senior practitioner in platform engineering, DevOps, or cloud infrastructure who enjoys mentoring and sharing knowledge.

You are entirely comfortable with an ad hoc, one day a week arrangement and are looking for a role where you can make a high impact strategic contribution.

You possess excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts into actionable guidance for mid level engineers.

You are an Australian Citizen with current working rights, eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Government NV1 security clearance.
